Leland A. Shiber, 97, of Salem, NH died on Friday April 15, 2011 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry, NH. Mr Shiber was born, raised and educated in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of The University of Wisconsin with a degree in Business Administration. He served with The US Army as a First Sgt during The Korean War. Leland was a life member of The Salem, N.H. VFW Post # 8546. For 25 years he worked with S.S. Kresge Company (K-Mart) and 34 years with J.M. Fields as a district manager and promotional director at The Haverhill Plaza. He also owned and operated The Green Thumb Garden Center in Salem, NH for several years. Mr Shiber was a member of St Joseph Parish, Salem and a member of The Salem Senior Citizens.
The widower of Margaret M. (Garvey) Shiber, his family members include his sons, Thomas and his wife Christine Shiber and Robert and his wife, Kay Shiber and his daughters, Ann Lee and her husband Paul McDonald and Mary and her husband, Gerald Adams. He has a sister, Rita Whitehouse and several grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday April 19, 2011 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at The Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00am on Tuesday in St Joseph Church, Salem. The burial will be in St Marys Cemetery, Lawrence.
