Retired Medford Police Lt. James R. Huse, age 90 of Medford died Friday in Westwood. He was the husband of the late Eleanore M. (Humber) Huse.
Mr. Huse was born in Norwood, son of the late Frank and Maria (Byrakiewicz) Uservitch and was a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1938. In later years he went on to receive a degree from Middlesex Community College.
Mr. Huse is a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during WWII during which time was a member of the Sea Bees. He was a Police Officer for over 35 years, employed by the City of Medford and rose through the ranks to achieve the rank of Lieutenant. He thoroughly enjoyed being the School Safety Officer. He embraced his heritage and loved talking about his Polish roots. He had gentrified his last name a bit to deviate from his parents but never wavered far from his proud ancestors.
In earlier years, he was a tireless caretaker, caring for his beloved wife Eleanore. He loved being near the beach and enjoyed the summers in Dennisport. He loved to sing and was an accomplished whistler. As a young man he was a notable athlete for Somerville High School and played on both the football and basketball teams. Mr. Huse was a former member of the K of C, and of the former Sacred Heart Parish. He is a member of the D.A.V Post #27 in Somerville.
Nothing gave him more enjoyment than spending time with his beloved family, grand and great grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as “Buppa”
He is survived by one daughter: Celeste Mahoney and her husband Brian of Westwood, a son, Atty. Mark J. Huse and his wife Marcia of Centerville and he is the father of the late Michele Patten. Loving grandfather of nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Jeanne Black and Edward Uservitch. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main Street Medford on Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St. Medford at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM .Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
