MEREDITH - Charles Rodney “Charlie” Meredith, age 71, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 15, 2011.
Born in Jacksonville, FL on April 21, 1939, “Mr. Charlie,” as he was known by his co-workers, was employed by General Motors for 23 and a half years, and worked for Amelia Island Plantation’s maintenance department. He and his wife formerly owned the Dairy Queen in Fernandina Beach, FL. At the time of his death he was employed by Home Depot of Yulee, FL. He was member of the Amelia Lodge #47 F & A M for 29 years and a member of the Scottish Rite Temple.
He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Meredith, Sr.; mother, Gertrude Peterson; and his brother, James Riley Meredith, Jr.
Mr. Meredith leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Ruby L. Meredith of Yulee, FL; three daughters, Vanessa G. Darling (Jerry) of Fernandina Beach, FL; Melanie A Dennard and Jessica C. Meredith, both of Yulee; two granddaughters, Ashley Cothern (fiancé Rodney Jones) of Johnson City, TN and Opal Iseman (fiancé David Johnson) of Jacksonville, FL; two grandsons, Justin Cothern of Yulee, FL and Marshall Darling of Fernandina Beach, FL; and many nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.
Mr. Meredith was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by all who knew him and never met a stranger. He was a man of integrity and wisdom and willing to share his knowledge and experience. Mr. Meredith was a devout Christian and was a living example of the Christian faith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19, at 11:00 a.m. in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home. Masonic Funeral Rites will follow at the interment in Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Green Pine Funeral Home.
