Obituary

WAYLAND: William L. “Bill” Mercier, 85, died peacefully in the care and comfort of his family at his residence in Wayland on April 14, 2011 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Boston on February 23, 1926 the son of the late William F. Mercier and Margaret (Greene) Mercier.

Bill is survived by his devoted daughter Jean K. Sapere and her husband Jorge of Wayland, a son Robert D. Mercier of Framingham and the father of the late William M. Mercier who died in June of 2008. He was the brother of Fern Chaplin of Dallas, TX. He was the husband of the late Jean Mary (Olen) Mercier who died in June of 1995. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Bill has been a resident of Wayland for over 52 years and spent his formative years in Boston. He was a graduate of Charlestown High School and from the Franklin Technical Institute in Boston with an electrician degree. He served his country proudly during World War II with the United States Navy. He retired in 2010 after 60 years of dedicated service as an electrician with the United States Army Labs in Natick. He enjoyed gardening at his home, traveling with his family and was an avid reader. He will be greatly missed by all of the lives that he touched.

Visitations will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.

Family and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 o’clock on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Parish of the Good Shepherd at St. Zepherin Church, 99 Main St (Rte 27), Wayland.

Interment will follow in the Mercier family lot in Saint Zepherin Cemetery on Bent Avenue in Wayland.
