Mamie Foster Bowman went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2011. She was born on December 2, 1916 to Grover and Elvie Foster. She was one of thirteen children. On July 28, 1934, she married Robert W. Bowman, who predeceased her in May of 1998. They had one daughter, Margaret Bowman Dove, who survives.
All her life she was active in her church and when God called her husband to the ministry, she was working right by his side, leading souls to the Lord. They served in many churches over the years. Everyone who met her would say “She loved”.
In addition to her beloved daughter, she is also survived by four grandchildren: Wanda Dove Greene and her husband Fred of Virginia Beach, VA, Robert Charles Dove of Danville, Brian K. Dove and his wife Cindy of Wilson, NC, and Robin Dove Crews and her husband Alan of Danville. Her legacy also includes three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two brothers, Charlie Foster and his wife Sally, Jack Foster and his wife Brenda; two sisters, Alice Carter and her husband Kenneth, and Linda Carter and her husband Dowan; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services officiated by Pastor Ronnie Andrews and Rev. Daryl Joyce will be held at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. At other times, they will be at the home of Margaret Dove, 322 West Main Street, Danville.
Mrs. Bowman will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorials can be expressed through donations to the Riverview Baptist Church, 523 Park Avenue Ext., Danville, VA 24541.
