Mr. Hilary Lewis Davis, 89, passed peacefully Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Hilary was born November 7, 1921, in Yadkin Co., NC to the late Frank and Flora Davis. He left school early to help his family and then served his country while in the Air Force during World War II. After 29 years of service, he retired from RJ Reynolds. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, traveling and helping other people.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, with whom he has been longing to return to, Ruby Shelton Davis; son, Arnold Lewis Davis; brothers, Calvin, Robert and Will Davis and his sister Biddie Hicks. He is survived by his daughters, Ruby Griffin (Jerry) of Walnut Cove, Doris Yokeley of Yadkinville; sons, Allen Davis (Geraldine) of Biscoe, David Davis (Helen) of Walnut Cove, Roger Davis (Geneva) of East Bend, Johnny Davis (Sharon) of Winston Salem; special granddaughter, Missy Spease (Brian) of Pfafftown, eighteen grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren and brothers, Glenn Davis (Myrtle) of East Bend and Hobart Davis (Mary) of Yadkinville. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special caring friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend and other times, at the home of Roger Davis of Araby Lane in East Bend, NC. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Enon Baptist Church with Pastors Bill James and Mark Elmore officiating. He will lie in-state from 10:30 to 11:00 at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
