Obituary

Edward A. Connulty, 73, of New Bedford died Tuesday April 12, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Gale L. (Marra) Connulty; they had been married for 50 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Lillian (Mellody) and James William Connulty, he lived in New Bedford for all his life.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.

In 1972, Mr. Connulty began his career with Paul & Dixon Insurance, becoming a partner in 1977. He was still active in the business at the time of his death. He had previously been employed as a branch claims manager for the Insurance Company of North America.

He was a graduate of Providence College. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Men's Luncheon Club, a member and past treasurer of the Wamsutta Club, a director of Sacred Heart Home, a past board member of Independent Insurance Agents of New Bedford, and a past corporator of the New Bedford Institution for Savings.

He was a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, having served for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Stephen W. Connulty and his wife Barbara of Dartmouth, Lisa-Gale Connulty-Costa and her husband John of Fairhaven, and Carolyn Genovese and her husband Gregory of Huntington, NY; and five grandchildren, Kristen and Colleen Connulty, Nicholas, Timothy and Olivia Genovese.

He was the brother of the late William Connulty.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
