Janie Ruth Hayes Horner, 64, of Douglas, formerly of Tifton, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 16, 2011, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, prior to the service.
Mrs. Horner was born on September 9, 1946 in Ocilla and was the daughter of John Thomas Hayes and Marcelle Janie Hale Hayes, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Elton Horner, who died in January 2011; and one brother, Thomas Hayes. She was a retired manager of Flowers Bakery and Bread Store and of the Baptist faith. She loved to sew and play Bingo. She was a member of the American Legion (Tifton Chapter) and had lived in Tifton most of her life, until moving to Douglas five years ago.
Mrs. Horner is survived by one daughter, LaDonna Stripling of Douglas; one brother, William “W. E.” Fogarty of Omega; one sister, Garlan Webb of Tifton; three granddaughters, Crystal Boyd of Douglas, Sabrina Goins of Ty Ty and Hope Gutierrez of Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Madison Robinson, Bubby Robinson and Hayden Goins, all of Ty Ty and J. P. Gutierrez of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
