Flora L. Holmes, age 71, died on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born on March 21, 1940 in Sumner, MS to the late Clarence Bailey and Mary Coleman Anderson. Flora was a homemaker. She loved to cook and she enjoyed reading. Flora loved spending time with her grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 10 AM until 11:00 AM at Spring Hill North Church of Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM with Rev. Sammy Towns officiating. Interment will be in the Spring Hill North Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Daryl Morgan, Kendrick Williams, Donnell Cooper, Don Bailey, Jerry Turner, Jr., and Mark Hayes serving as pallbearers. Dariius Morgan, Robert Cooper, Dalvin Caldwell, John Eddie Jones and Tommy Bailey will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flora is survived by her daughter, JoAnne Rogers of Water Valley, MS; two sisters, Essie Mae Beck and Lula M. Diltz all of Charleston, MS; three brothers, Virgil Cheek of Lambert, MS, John Cheek of Chicago, IL, and Walter Cheek of Charleston, MS; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five sisters, Ceota Moore, Florene Harris, Carnistine Simmons, Vicie Mae Rosenthal and Girdie Steen; and two brothers, Kirk Cheek and Roosevelt Cheek.
