Obituary

Normand A. Gendreau, 69, of Mendon Rd., Woonsocket, died Monday evening at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Lucille N. (Bernier) Gendreau and the late Doris I. (Lavoie) Gendreau.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alvin A. and Nora B. (Dufresne) Gendreau. He was a resident of Providence for most of his life before moving to Woonsocket several years ago.
Mr. Gendreau was a graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence and Our Lady of Providence Seminary. He received his Master of Arts Degree in French from the University of Rhode Island and also attended the American University in Louvain Belgium.
During his career Mr. Gendreau was a French instructor at Rhode Island College and URI. He also taught at St. Charles
School in Providence and in the North Smithfield Public Schools.
Normand’s Catholic faith was an integral part of his life. A very devout man, he was a curator of the Legion of Mary and Past President of the Third Order Franciscans. He was also a longtime member of L’Union St. Jean Baptiste.
Normand enjoyed acquiring and maintaining his varied collection of antiques, artwork, stamps, and coins.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Ella Dubois of FL, and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was the brother of the late Dr. Alvin Gendreau and Muriel Dubois.
His funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5-8pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Third Order Franciscans.
