Obituary

WORCESTER-Martin E.Walsh, 77, of 60 Olean Street, formerly of Caro Street died Wednesday, January 21st in U-Mass Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He leaves his wife of 22 years, Rose L. (Porcaro) Walsh, 3 sons, William J. Walsh of W. Yarmouth, Kevin E. Walsh of Oxford and James M. Walsh of Centerville, a daughter, Beverly J. Petersen of Worcester, 3 stepsons, John L. Sciascia of Auburn, Ronald F. Sciascia of Spencer and Robert A. Sciascia of Chino Hills, CA, 2 stepdaughters, Rosemarie Pelletier of Charlestown, RI and Donna T. Kirkorian of Sturbridge, 2 brothers, Patrick and Edward Walsh of Worcester, a sister, Anna Kaymick of Worcester, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Muriel (Hosegood) Walsh in 1975, 4 brothers, Francis, William, Thomas and Joseph Walsh and 3 sisters, Rita Napoli, Alice Anderson and Mary Redman.

He was born in Worcester the son of Edward and Mary (Fahey) Walsh and was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the USS McGowan. Mr. Walsh was employed at the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority as head storekeeper for 44 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Christ the King Church, a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, former president of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority Union, Knights of Columbus Council 118, Vernon Hill American Legion Post, it’s 40 & 8 organization and the Disabled American Veterans.

The funeral will be Saturday, January 24th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Friday, January 23rd from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
