Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Jean H. (Gover) Palazzola, 85, of Centennial Avenue, died unexpectedly early Monday morning, April 11, 2011 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital. She was the wife of the late Vito J. “Vito Baker” Palazzola, Jr., who died in April of 1996. They had shared fifty years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on December 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Louise G. (Delaney) Gover. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a proud graduate of the Gloucester High School.
Jean was employed by the former O’Donnell Usen/Seafood Kitchens for twenty-three years, having retired in 1988.
She was an avid knitter and excellent cook, who reveled in fun times playing cards at club with her “comares."She also thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with the “Golden Girls.” The three things that were most important to Jean were God, family and friends. Her family will remember her as the epitome of modesty, humility and most of all love. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her four children, Andrea, wife of David H. Souza, Anna Marie, wife of Phillip Parisi, Vito, III and Susan (Olsen) Palazzola, Cathy Murray, companion of Matteo LoGrande; ten grandchildren, Shellee M. Lopes, David H. Souza, Jr., Jeannie, wife of Robert “BJ” Allen, Justin M. Souza, companion of Jon Tate, Angela Parisi, companion of Jody Semas, Christie Anna, wife of Yanni “John” Fotopoulos, Daniel P. Murray, Jr., companion of Stephanie Glennon, Rachel J. Murray, Jaclyn A. Murray and Matthew T. Palazzola; five great-grandchildren, Paulo A. Lopes, Jr., Arianna M. Souza, Jake D. Reardon, Maxwell R. Allen and Emma R. Allen. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Kathleen, wife of John Scola, Sr. and Frances, wife of James Cavanaugh; brother-in-law, Sebastian “Busty”, husband of Josephine Palazzola; her special aunt, Priscilla Delaney; many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and a host of godchildren. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Joshua M. Souza and two sisters, Marjorie L. Hobbs and Shirley P. Manninen.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
