Karen Greene set sail on her final journey on April 10, 2011, just shy of her 52nd birthday.
The youngest daughter of Alden and Helen (Roy) Greene, she was born in Westerly, RI on April 28, 1959. She grew up in Pawcatuck, CT and attended Stonington High school.
A life-long lover of music, Karen pursued her passion by earning her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Connecticut in classical guitar and playing bass clarinet in the UConn marching band. For years she played locally in the Noank-Mystic Community Band and as part of a clarinet quartet, until she found her voice and “came over to the other side” – choral singing.
She, with her wonderful sense of humor and generous heart, will be deeply missed by many, including her favorite (and only) sister, Nancy Greene of New Mexico; her nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; singers and friends from Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus, Griswold Players Community Chorus, Mystic River Chorale, Obesa Cantavit, and United Church of Stonington; by her best friend and musical partner-in-crime, Michelle Mencer (of Rogers and Hammertoe); and her furry and feathered friends Boomer the Pirate Parrot and Willie (Wilbur) the cat.
Funeral services will be private.
Donations made in Karen’s memory may be mailed to Dara Blackstone at 3 Pinecrest Road, N. Stonington, CT 06359. Donations received will be used to offset expenses and any additional monies will be used to establish the Karen E. Greene Memorial Fund for Wayward Tenors.
