Obituary

WORCESTER-James M. Sykes, 89, of Worcester, died Saturday, April 9th in St. Francis Home. He leaves his wife of 58 years, June L. (Farnham) Sykes; a daughter, Sharon E. Letourneau of Worcester; two granddaughters, Jaclyn and Devon Letourneau, both of Worcester; two great grandsons, Christian Letourneau and Xavyer Velez, both of Worcester. He was predeceased by two sisters, Charlotte Laycock and Elsie Herman.

He was born in Winooski, VT the son of Joseph and Margaret (LaDoux) Sykes and lived here for many years. He graduated from the former High School of Commerce and Worcester Art Museum School. Mr. Sykes was a commercial artist at Mercantile Printing for 38 years, before retiring in 1989. He was a World War II U.S. Coast Guard veteran, and served in The Philippines. Mr. Sykes enjoyed golfing and bowling and will be remembered for his singing and whistling.

The funeral is Wednesday, April 13th with a service at 11:00 A.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 12th in the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Francis Home, 101 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01604.
