Betty Sue Greenfield Grizzard, age 72 of Clarksville, TN, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.
Mrs. Grizzard was born March 20, 1939 in Clarksviille, TN, daughter of the late James "Pappy" Greenfield and Lora Blackwell Greenfield. She was the first woman to be given a rural postal route in Montgomery County. She carried route #1 for 25 years. She retired from the US Postal Service after 30 plus years and one million accident free miles. She was also an avid bowler for many years. She was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church.
Services will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 1:30 p.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Dr. Larry Robertson, Rev. Terry Brown and Max Holt officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, noon until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include two siblings, Margaret Greenfield Summers and James Douglas Greenfield; two children, Connie Sue Shepard and Barry Dean Grizzard; and four grandchildren, Betsy Allen Grizzard, Pensacola, FL, Thomas Andrew Grizzard, Madilynn Raye Martin and Suzannah Rose Martin, all of Cookeville, TN.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Summers, Brandon Summers, Mike Greenfield, Clay Greenfield, Frank Quarles and Larry Worthy. Honorary Pallbearers will be retired postal workers.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Hilldale Baptist Church FUEL Program, 2001 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37043.
