William Richards, Jr., 78, of Somerset, formerly of New Bedford died April 9, 2011 unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of the late Frances (Manteiga) Richards and the former husband of the late Patricia (Carter) Richards-Wood.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William and Cecilia (Foley) Richards, he lived in New Bedford most of his life, wintering in Venice, FL before moving to Somerset in 2007.
Mr. Richards was an avid golfer and a member of the New Bedford Country Club.
He was proprietor of Richards Pontiac for many years.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Kathleen McHugh of Billerica, MA and Debra Letendre and her husband Norman of New Bedford; a brother, Edward Richards of Florida; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Cullen, Stacey Pothier and Jeremy Letendre; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 stepdaughters, Margaret Champoux and Marybeth Champoux.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 13th at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, April 12th from 4-7 PM.
