R. Louis Boney, 100, of Tifton died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Stephen Webb will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. John T. Boney, Justin McLean, Joseph Carter, Dunbar Hankinson, Dean Hilliard and Lee Boney will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Sunday school class at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Boney was born on March 25, 1911 in Telfair County and was the son of the late Raleigh Morris Boney and Lula Williams Boney. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Rubye Rice Boney, who died in 2001. He was the oldest and last of six brothers and sisters. He was retired as a long-time merchant in Downtown Tifton and a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church. He collected model cars and loved harness racing and showing horses. He enjoyed working in his yard and his home was chosen as Garden Spot of the Month many times.
Mr. Boney is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James R and Lila L. Boney of Tifton and Donald L. and Jane L. Boney of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Sarah P. Adams, John T. Boney, Laurie A. Boney, Deidre L. McLean and Lee C. Boney; and six great-grandchildren, Justin McLean, Katelyn McLean, Blake McLean, Alasdair Boney, Aidan Boney and Rachel Adams.
