MIDDLEBORO…Willis E. Baker, 84, of East Freetown died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Oak Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was the husband of Doris E. (Pittsley) Baker; to whom they would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this June.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Willis E. and Marion (Grinnell) Baker he resided in the Town of East Freetown for most of his life. He was formerly employed by the former Eastern States Construction of Taunton as a maintenance man until his retirement in December of 1975.
Mr. Baker was an avid fisherman who enjoyed boating, gardening and having animals. He was a handy man who always enjoyed having a project to take on.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Willis E. Baker and his wife Marlene of New Bedford; 1 sister: Edna Diniz of Fall River; nephew: Richard A. Perry, Sr. who was raised by the Baker’s from childhood; 3 grandchildren: Justin M. Baker, Katelyn A. Baker and Richard A. Perry, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Arthur Baker, David Baker, Gertrude Bowden and Ruth DaCosta.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford.
Calling Hours will be Friday 6-9 P.M.
Interment in Chace Cemetery, East Freetown.
