RAYNHAM – George Baptiste, husband of Antoinette R. “Toni” (Dupont) Baptiste, died at Morton Hospital & Medical Center on April 5, 2011.
He was 84.
Born, raised, and educated in Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel and Edna (Silva) Baptiste.
He was employed by the Paul Dever School for over twenty years before retiring in 1991.
Mr. Baptiste enjoyed music, and for many years played guitar and bass with area ensembles, including the fourteen-piece band, Sophisticated Swing.
He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church.
Besides his wife of Raynham, he leaves a son, Stephen P. Baptiste and his wife Chris of Middleboro; a daughter, Richalie A. Lopes and her husband Charles of Lakeland, FL; a sister, Mary Copeland and her husband Jim of Taunton; five grandchildren, Stephanie Lopes, Lisa Peterson, Jennifer Collins, Daniel Baptiste and Bethany Baptiste; two great grandchildren, Jaiden and Alice; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late David Baptiste.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Saturday, April 9th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Ann’s Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 8th from 5 to 8 p.m.
