Russell W. Bates, 87, of Tewksbury

…retired Small Business Administration financial analyst…

TEWKSBURY: Russell W. Bates, age 87, a resident of Tewksbury for over 50 years, died Monday, January 19, 2004 at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell.

He was the husband of former longtime Tewksbury school teacher Mildred A. (Collins) Bates.

He was born in Boston on October 5, 1916, the son of the late Russell E. and Sarah (Gregory) Bates.

Mr. Bates was raised in Mendon.

He attended Mendon schools and graduated from Mendon High School. Mr. Bates continued his education at the former Lowell Tech and received a B.S. degree in Engineering.

He was employed as a financial analyst by the U.S. Federal Government’s Small Business Administration for 20 years. He worked for S.B.A. offices in Boston, MA, Manchester, CT and Washington, DC. until his retirement in 1982.

Mr. Bates attended St. Anne’s Church in Lowell and was a member of the Wamesit Masonic Lodge AF & AM of Tewksbury.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter; Deborah B. Walsh and her husband James of Windham, NH; 3 grandchildren; Michael B., Brian J. and Elizabeth W. Walsh all of Windham, NH; 1 sister; Elle Frances Coyne of Malden.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24th at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, 8 Kirk St., Lowell. Cremation will follow at Linwood Crematory, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Kidney Foundation, 11 Vanderbilt Ave., Norwood, MA 02062
