CORNELIUS “ DARBY”DRISCOLL
Salem NH : Cornelius “Darby” Driscoll passed away peacefully on April 4, 2011 surrounded by his family at Salem Haven in Salem NH. He was the beloved husband best friend of Esther Kennedy Driscoll to whom he was married for 64 years. He was the loving father and father in law of :
Roy and Cornelia Gale of Toronto, Canada, Maureen and Albert Parchuck of Methuen, James and Patricia Driscoll of Lawrence, Cornelius and Maribeth Driscoll of North Hampton, NH, and Lawrence Firefighter Patrick and his wife Pamela Driscoll of Lawrence.
He was the cherished grandfather to: Maggie, Joey, Katie, Patrick, Jake, and Connor Driscoll. He had several nieces and nephews.
He was born on Feb. 4, 1917 in Charlestown Massachusetts as the son of James and Jeanette (Bean) Driscoll. He was a graduate of Charlestown High School and worked as a coppersmith at the Charlestown Navy Yard prior to entering the US Navy. During World War II he served his country in the United States Navy as a Seaman First Class. He served on the following vessels ; USS LCS, USS Mountrail, and the USS Lauderdale. Cornelius, at wars end, was the recipient of the of the American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal, and the World War ll Victory Medal prior to being honorably discharged. Upon his marriage to Esther he resided in Lawrence where he was a member of the Lawrence Fire Department for 32 years . Darby was a man of courage and honor in every aspect of his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a true patriot who loved his country. His greatest accomplishment, in his eyes, was the love he instilled in his family. He was a devout Catholic. He was a member of the Veterans’ Association of Foreign Wars, an active member of the Retired Firefighters’ Association, and also a member of the Lawrence B.P.O.E.#65 Lodge of Elks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday morning at 9:00am at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, with burial to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery of North Andover.
Friends will be warmly received on Friday, April 8th from 4-8 pm at Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home , 233 Lawrence Street , Methuen MA.
