GLOUCESTER: Donald T. Lodge, 60, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of April 5, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Jean A. (Brown) Lodge.
Born in Gloucester on January 14, 1951, he was the son of the late Rev. Howard J. and Marian M. (Sheaffer) Lodge. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, he was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1969 and the Philadelphia Biblical University.
Donald fulfilled his vision of starting a Christian school by founding and serving as Principal of the Faith Christian School in Gloucester in 1978. He had also worked as a lobsterman out of Lane’s Cove; worked at the former Gloucester Paint Factory and had taught in the Gloucester public school system in the 1970’s. Among his many interests was staying active and spending time and investing in the lives of his children, grandchildren and students. Don also served as a Deacon of the Calvary Chapel Baptist Church for many years and was a member of the Massachusetts Lobstermen’s Association.
In addition to his wife of thirty-seven years, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa A. and her husband, David M. Castellucci, Donna J. and her husband, Jeffrey D. Southworth and Laura E. Lodge all of Gloucester; a son, David A. Lodge, Petty Officer 2nd class, U.S.N. and his wife, Lavetta S. Lodge stationed in Norfolk, VA; nine grandchildren, Isaiah, Josiah, Faith, Hope and Grace Castellucci, Jacob and Anya Lodge, Jayden Vincent and Kaya Farnsworth; two sisters, Marian Smitheman of Feasterville, PA and Susan Nowasielski of Wilmington, DE; two brothers, Howard J., Jr. and his wife, Eileen Lodge of Gloucester and James and his wife, Roselyn Lodge of Elizabethville, PA; many nieces, nephews and many beloved students and extended church family members.
A homegoing celebration of his life will be held on Saturday in the Calvary Chapel Baptist Church, 384 Washington St., Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Calvary Chapel Baptist Church, for the Faith Christian School Scholarships, 384 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Dolliver Memorial Cemetery, W. Gloucester.
