Obituary

Linwood H. “Sam” Hamlett, age 91, of 522 Holland Road, Pelham, died peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

Born October 16, 1919 in Caswell County, NC, he was the son of the late Oliver Stokes Hamlett and Josie Lee Wade Hamlett. He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII. Mr. Hamlett was a Constable and Deputy for 28 years for the Caswell County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, he served two terms as Caswell County Commissioner and was a founding member of the Pelham Volunteer Fire Department. He was a charter member of Stateline Baptist Church.

Mr. Hamlett’s wife, Irene Vaden Hamlett, predeceased him in December 2009.

Survivors include one son: Brian K. Hamlett of Danville; one brother: Rev. Billy Hamlett of Hickory, NC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Linwood H. Hamlett, Jr., and Barry Lynn Hamlett.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Wayne Wallace and Rev. Leonard Watlington will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hamlett Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
