LAWRENCE - Mary E. (McAuliffe) Murphy 79 of Lawrence and also Salisbury Beach, MA, died Saturday April 2, 2011 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Born and educated in Lawrence, MA, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Cloonan) McAuliffe. She attended St. Laurence O’Toole Grammar School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School and the Lawrence General School of Nursing. For 43 years she was a registered nurse at Lawrence General Hospital before retiring in 1995. Most recently she worked at North of Boston Visitors Center in Salisbury.
She attended the Star of the Sea Church in Salisbury. She enjoyed her travels to Ireland and Foxwoods Resort. She loved knitting sweaters, hats and scarves for family and friends especially for the youngest.
She was the widow of Lawrence Firefighter John F. Murphy and is survived by her son Lawrence Deputy Fire Chief Brian J. Murphy and his wife Judy of Methuen, MA and Marianne K. Murphy, R.N. of Salisbury, MA. She also leaves her sister Ann Devine of Methuen.
Three grandchildren Meaghan, Sean and Kerri Murphy and several cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00a.m. in St. Monica’s Church in Methuen with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
