GLOUCESTER: Margaret C. Leask, 85, of Annisquam, died Friday evening April 1, 2011 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late John W. “Jack” Leask, who died in March of 2004.
Born in Newton on February 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mildred (Davis) Foss. She was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, RI and received a degree from the former Nursery Training School of Boston. Mrs. Leask was a nursery school teacher with the Stamford Day Nursery, Stamford, CT and also in Carlisle, MA.
A summer resident since 1978, she and Jack made Annisquam their permanent home in 1991. Mrs. Leask was a former member of the Annisquam Village Sewing Club, the Annisquam Yacht Club and a volunteer with the Annisquam Sea Fair and the Port O’Call Exchange. She was also a dedicated gardener and birding enthusiast. She was a devoted and beloved friend and neighbor, and will be missed by many people.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Leask of Roslindale; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Leask and Linda Haynes of Mason, NH, and Andrew and Anne Leask of Woodinville, WA; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, two sisters-in-law, Betty Durland and Nancy Phillips, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, William Foss, Mary Lou Wynne and Pamelia Pool.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9th in the Annisquam Village Church, 820 Washington Street, Gloucester at 2pm. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held privately in the Mount Adnah Cemetery.
