BEVERLY: Richard E. Lewis, 70, died Sunday evening, March 27, 2011 in the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Oveada C. (Wilson) Lewis.
Born in Beverly on February 4, 1941, he was the son of Pauline (Ouimette) Lewis of Beverly and the late Roderick E. Lewis, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Beverly.
Richard was employed for many years as an embosser for the former Comet and Supatco Leather companies, both of Peabody. Up until his illness in February, he had been employed for twelve years in the maintenance department of the Herrick House.
In his earlier years, he loved to go lobstering with his father. He was also an avid gardener and woodworker and enjoyed making models of lighthouses.
In addition to his wife of forty-four years and his mother, he is survived by his children, Richard E. Lewis, Jr., Timothy Lewis, Melinda Delgado all of Beverly, and Lisa Cormier of Bradenton, FL; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Dorothy Lewis of Beverly and Roger and Celeste Lewis of Acton, ME; many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Roderick E. Lewis, Jr.
His funeral service will be held in the North Beverly Cemetery on Tuesday April 5, at 11 a.m. There are no visiting hours.
