GLOUCESTER: Norma M. (Marcaurelle) Tobey Spittle, 83, died Tuesday morning, March 29, 2011 in the Beverly Hospital. She was the wife of Roy Spittle.
Born in Ipswich on January 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Annie V. (Prisby) Marcaurelle.
During World War II, Norma was employed by Sylvania in Ipswich. She had also worked as a housekeeper and was employed by Gorton’s of Gloucester, Hodgkins Restaurant in Rockport and the Captain’s Lodge.
As a child, she loved swimming and skating on the Ipswich River. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, and being a home body. She especially enjoyed spending winters in Holiday, Florida. Norma will be remembered by friends and loved ones as a kind and loving soul.
In addition to her husband of twenty-one years, she is survived by her daughter, Christine Tobey of Los Angeles, CA; stepchildren, Thomas, husband of Mary Spittle and Marybeth Spittle; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her first husband, George Tobey and her brother, Raymond Marcaurelle.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 – 10 a.m. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, c/o Atlantic Shores, 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
