...Retired Assistant Treasurer of Tewksbury, 69

TEWKSBURY – David M. Sullivan, Sr., age 69, a life long resident of Tewksbury died March 30, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous six year battle with stomach cancer. David is survived by his wife and best friend, Linda M. (Sullivan) Sullivan for whom he rescued from South Tewksbury. They would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on May 1st.
David was born February 23, 1942 in Lowell, MA, one of fifteen children of the late Frank J. Sr. and Catherine J. (Mullen) Sullivan, and received his early education at Immaculate Conception School. He later entered the Tewksbury School System and graduated from Tewksbury High, Class of 1959.
David was employed by the Town of Tewksbury for forty years and retired in 2001 as the Assistant Town Treasurer. He was also employed at the Tewksbury Municipal Federal Employees Credit Union from 1962-1983. Prior to his illness, David volunteered at the Tewksbury Food Pantry by picking up food collections at Saint William’s Church.
David was a communicant of St. William’s Church in Tewksbury. He enjoyed spending his free time working endlessly on his garden, trips to the beach and walking daily. He especially loved spending time at his son Bob’s lake house on Great East Lake in Acton, ME. He had a constant companion by his side at all times, his dog Missy. Above all else David enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his 10 Grandchildren, all of which he was proud.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, David M. Sullivan, Jr. and Timothy M. Sullivan both of Londonderry, NH, Robert M. Sullivan and his wife, Victoria A. (Aghajanian) of Tewksbury, SPC Michael J. Sullivan of the 94th Military Police Company, who recently returned from a tour in Iraq, and his fiancée, Michelle Kelley both of Tewksbury, MA, two daughters Kerry L. Sullivan and her fiancée Gabriele Biasizzo of Washington, DC and Amy L. Erickson and her husband, Andrew of Lowell. Two of his proudest moments in life were when he delivered both of his daughters at home.
He is also survived by ten brothers and sisters, Theresa Sullivan, wife of the late Frank Sullivan, Eleanor Edge wife of the late George LeMasurier and William Edge, Rita Hassett and her husband, Michael all of Chelmsford, Catherine Doak and her husband Earl of Florida, Jean Lamarre and her husband William, Patrick Sullivan and his partner Paul Audette, Patricia Duffett and her husband Edward, Carol Chartier and her husband Victor, Janet Martin and her husband Richard all of New Hampshire and James Sullivan and his wife Kathy of Dracut and especially Marie Nolan, wife of the late William Nolan of Tewksbury, who was always there for him and by his side until the end; one brother-in-law Barry Sullivan of Lowell; ten grandchildren, Thomas, Daniel, Evan, Anthony, AnnMarie, Jacquelyn, Jonah and Jenna Sullivan and William and Emily Erickson. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
David was also the brother of the late Daniel Sullivan and his wife, Theresa, Charles Sullivan and his wife, Mary and Richard Sullivan. He was also the son-in-law of the late Joseph V. and Eleanor G. (Curtin) Sullivan, Sr. and brother-in-law of the late Joseph V. Sullivan, Jr.
Visiting hours Sunday, April 3, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. His funeral will begin on Monday at 10:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Monday, April 4, at 11:30 a.m. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either Saints Medical Center, Cancer Center, 1 Hospital Dr., Lowell, MA 01852, or Tewksbury Food Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury, MA 01876 or Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843 will be appreciated. The family would like to thank the United States Army and the American Red Cross for working quickly to get Michael home safely to see his father before he died.
