Obituary

Marion Embrose Henderson passed away on March 29, 2011, surrounded by her beloved family.
She was born in New Bedford to George O. and Marion L. (Embrose) Henderson. She is survived by sister Joan Marie Beaubian; five daughters, Florence, Regina, Deborah, Geraldine, and Lisa; four sons, Stephen, Hanif (Ronald), Richard, and Jason; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her lifetime friend, Bertha Jones. She was predeceased by three siblings, George, Claude, and Elizabeth.
Marion graduated from New Bedford High School in 1940 and Southeastern Massachusetts University, now known as UMass Dartmouth, in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art.
She retired from Roosevelt Junior High School as an art teacher, where she worked 20 years. Prior to becoming an art teacher, Marion was a teacher's aide at Carney Academy while spending her summers as an art instructor at Camp Kennedy as well as President of P.T.O. She served as a member of Model Cities Planning Board and the Arts Cultural Council. She also volunteered as a tour guide in the New Bedford Historic District.
Marion was a long standing member and Financial Secretary for many years of the Susan A. Sullavou Temple #94 of the I.B.P.O.E. of the World. A former member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as a trustee and treasurer, she currently attended the Church of Mercy-City of Joy.
She was loved by many and after her retirement her time was spent doing arts and crafts, drawing, sending cards to ailing friends, and going to Foxwoods and other casinos.
She will be missed by many, especially at family functions.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 AM at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
