WORCESTER-John F. Barnicle, 91, formerly of 14 Winslow Street and Brookfield died Sunday, January 18th in Radius Healthcare of Worcester. He leaves his wife of 62 years Catherine “Mabel” (Kilgore) Barnicle, 4 sons Terrence J. Barnicle of Worcester, Timothy M. Barnicle of Chevy Chase, MD, Gerald F. Barnicle of Worcester and Stephan P. Barnicle of Simsbury, CT, a daughter Marybeth B. Rockwell of Worcester and a sister Helen Frappier of Paxton, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A son Peter G. Barnicle, a brother Thomas Barnicle and 3 sisters Florence Hetherman, Julia Daly and Mary DeSimone predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester the son of Michael D. and Delia (McNicholas) Barnicle and was a graduate of Commerce High School. Mr. Barnicle owned and operated J. F. Barnicle Oil Company for 54 years, and later worked for Pioneer Oil. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, the Cathedral of St. Paul’s Holy Name Society, and affiliated with the Passionist Monastery. He had been a champion speed skater an outstanding athlete, and enjoyed fishing and cribbage.
The funeral is Wednesday, January 21st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 20th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
