Obituary

Marion T. (Richard) Giannino, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous fight for her life surrounded by her loving family. She was 84 years old.

Marion was born in Boston on May 20, 1926 to the late Richard and Carmella (Salem) Salem. She grew up in the South End section of Boston and attended Boston Public Schools. Marion worked as a waitress at several restaurants and for many years donated her time to cooking for the priests assigned to the former St. Catherine's Parish in Charlestown. Marion enjoyed playing bingo and cooking, but most of all she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family.

Marion is the devoted mother of Paul Giannino and his wife Santina of Braintree, Nadine Doherty and her husband Joe of Everett, Anthony Giannino and his wife Alice of Everett, Robert Giannino and his wife Polinaria of Everett and Mark Giannino of Charlestown. She is the loving Grandma to Joseph and Heather, Melissa and Matt, Isabella, Gabriella, Peter and Michael. She is the beloved sister of Carol Colarusso and her husband Albert of Everett, Shirley Johnson of Colorado, Anthony Thomas of California and the late Richard Salem.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Marion's Funeral on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m.
