Obituary

Malcolm E. Lopes, 64, of Dartmouth, died Sunday March 27, 2011 at home, surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was the husband of Dianne (Antaya) Lopes.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Edward R. and Lorella (Vargas) Lopes, he lived in Dartmouth all of his life.
Mr. Lopes was formerly employed as a corrections officer at MCI - Bridgewater until his retirement. He later worked for Hawthorn Medical Associates, Impact Collision Parts, and the Hampton Inn in Seekonk.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He will be missed.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lisa Lopes of New Bedford and Lynn Saucier of Acushnet; a stepdaughter, Jeanna (Mayo) Almeida of Dartmouth; a sister, Janice C. Lopes of Dartmouth; and four grandchildren, Ashley, David, Ryan and Aaron.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-9 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Malcolm Lopes Scholarship Fund (for Youth Racing), 9 Robert St., Dartmouth, MA 02747.
