JAMES J. GODWIN, age 80, a Hingham resident since 1959, died on Sunday, Jan. 18th at the Norwell Knoll Nursing Home in Norwell. Born in Boston, Mr. Godwin spent his early life in Winchester, MA. He was a 1942 graduate of Phillips Andover Academy in Andover and a 1946 graduate of Harvard University. For 25 years he was a Senior Loss Examiner for Marine Office Appleton & Cox in Boston, retiring in 1978. Mr. Godwin was a dedicated supporter of Harvard University athletics, particularly football and hockey.He leaves his wife of 45 years, Jane F. (Rezendes) Godwin of Hingham. He was the father of Peter J. Godwin and his wife Karen M. of Westwood, Jennifer G. Lynch and her husband Dale C. of South Dartmouth and Martha J. Dixon and her husband Paul C. of Tyngsboro, MA. Brother of Shirley G. Goodrich of Westport Point, MA. Grandfather of Michael James Godwin and Andrew Robert Godwin both of Westwood, and Katherine Elisabeth Lynch and Madeline Jane Lynch both of South Dartmouth.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 22nd at 11 AM at St. Paul's Church,147 North St., Hingham Square.Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association,36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102.The interment will be in the Hingham Centre Cemetery.
