Lawrence W. Lovett, 86, of 472 East Main Street, died Saturday, March 26 in his home after an illness.
His wife, June P. (Joyce) Lovett died in 1999. He leaves two sons James L. Lovett and his wife LeeAnn of North Brookfield, and David R. Lovett and his wife Nancy of Melrose, a daughter Lisa M. Grace and her husband James of North Brookfield, two brothers Sheldon Lovett of Pinconning, MI, and William Lovett of Amherst, two sisters Mary Degg of Pinconning, MI, and Margaret Liguz of So.Deerfield, many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his three brothers Howard, Robert & Ralph Lovett and five sisters Katherine Tremblay, Claire Wright, Dorothy Wilkie, Bertha Papple and Lorraine Lovett.
Mr. Lovett was born May 5, 1924 in Amherst, son of Bert F. and Mary A. (Canfield) Lovett. He worked in construction for over 40 years and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 98. He joined the US Army in 1943 and served his country during World War II. He was a member of the 96th Chemical Mortar Division and the 44th Division, serving in the European Theater of operations with the 509th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion, receiving the European African Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was an expert rifleman. He was in France with the USS Richardson and was in Austria when the war ended and returned on the USS Florence Nightingale.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. He enjoyed all of his visits with his friends at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him. He is now in eternal peace with his wife, June.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 29 from J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, North Brookfield Rd., East Brookfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, East Brookfield. Calling hours are Monday from 5:00-7:00 PM.
