GLOUCESTER: Elaine R. (Nickerson) Mitchell, 73, of 10 Dale Ave, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at her home following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert S. Mitchell who died in 2002.
Born in Gloucester on April 12, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Elsie (Oliver) Nickerson. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, she also attended Gloucester public schools.
Elaine was employed at the former Rule Industries in Magnolia for over twenty-five years. A devoted mother and grandmother, she enjoyed gardening and shopping with her daughter and loved playing cards with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Erin L. and her husband, John Lowe of Gloucester; two sons, Brian M. Raftery and his companion, Linda Ross of Gloucester and Kevin W. Raftery and his companion, Linna Hill of Cashmere, WA; two stepdaughters, Beverly A. Mitchell-Hallisey and her husband, Brian of W. Newbury and Cynthia J. Sears and her husband, Milton “Mickey” of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, Jerry Valentine, Brieanne and her husband, Mike Ledbetter and Saun Raftery all of Washington, Brandon and his wife, Nicole Misuraca, Damon Lowe, Kacia Lowe and Kevin Raftery all of Gloucester; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne and her husband, James Johnston of W. Paris, ME; a brother, Kenneth and his wife, Darlene Nickerson of Saint Maries, ID; her beloved cat “Oliver” and many nieces.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the Calvary Cemetery, Eastern Ave., Gloucester at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
