Mildred I. (Solari) Hefler, 84, of Brockton, passed away on March 24, 2011 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of 55 years to the late Louis S. Hefler.
Millie was born in Paterson, NJ on April 9th, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Newcombe) Solari. Following the death of her mother, she came to Brockton as a baby to live with her beloved grandmother, Margaret Solari and was raised as her tenth child.
Mrs. Hefler was a lifelong resident of Brockton and was a 1944 graduate of Brockton High School. After raising her family, she returned to work outside her home as an Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper for Pierce Refrigeration, Inc. in West Bridgewater until a fall forced her retirement at the age of 76.
She enjoyed spending her summers at Swift’s Beach in Wareham, and more recently in Falmouth making her home with her two daughters. Mildred was an avid Red Sox fan, rarely missing a game on TV. She could often be heard shouting encouragement and sometimes criticism to the team. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and playing cards with her grandchildren. Most of all, she enjoyed just being with her family.
Mrs. Hefler is survived by her children, Janet Mathews and her husband Clay of Brockton, Nancy Campbell, and her husband Harry of W. Bridgewater and John Hefler of Brockton; her beloved grandchildren Michael Figueiredo of Alexandria VA, Melinda and her husband Steven Yaffe, and Alissa Mathews all of Brockton and Christina and Matthew Campbell of W. Bridgewater; her two great grandchildren Benjamin and Emerson Yaffe, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mrs. Marilyn Saunders, a brother-in-law Mr. Alton Hefler, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
