Joseph E. Davis, Sr., 87, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on Wednesday March 23rd surrounded by his loving family, in the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a short period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret E. (O’Leary) Davis.
Born and brought up in Dorchester, son of the late William and Agnes (Forde) Davis. He was a graduate of Dorchester High School.
He was World War II United States Navy Veteran serving from 1941–1947.He fought in both the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. A longtime member of the VFW Post # 697 in Whitman, were he was the past post commander. He was also a strong supporter of The American Disabled Veterans and the American Homeless Veterans.
He worked at the Raytheon Company for 36 years,as a Electronic Technician.
Joseph was an East Bridgewater resident for many years and was communicate of the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman.
He enjoyed gardening and coin collecting.
He is survived by his 3 sons Joseph E. Davis, Jr., of Arlington, John Davis of Waltham, Brian Davis of Revere and his daughter Denise MacIntyre of East Bridgewater, his sisters, Mary Maguire of Wayland, Sr. Rita Ann of Framingham, Irene Radibeau of Watertown and Alice Grimes of Dorchester; also 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Michael Davis, brother of the late William, John, James and Thomas Davis, Agnes Dutka and Ann DiMare.
His services will be held on Monday March 28th at 10:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00am in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be in the MA VA National Cemetery in Bourne MA, at 1:30PM.His visitation will be held on Sunday March 27th from 2:00-6:00PM.
