Obituary

Mr. James J. DeMaio, age 80, died Tuesday March 22, 2011, in Lowell, after a lengthy illness. Born in Boston, James was the beloved son of the late Angelina (DiFranza) & James DeMaio.
Born in Boston, James was raised in Mattapan until the age of 10, then his family moved to East Cambridge. He attended St. Francis Elementary School and Cambridge Rindge Tech. High School. After high school James joined the US Navy. Serving for four years from Oct. 1948 to Oct. 1952 in the great lakes region and Norfolk, VA. The last year he was attached to the US Marine Corp. He married his beloved late wife Carole (Doherty) DeMaio on January 8, 1954. He and his new bride moved to Woburn in 1959 where they raised their family.
James worked in the medical field his entire life. He was a Medical Technician, a Pathology Laboratory assistant and finally retired while in the medical sales field. James started at the original Floating Hospital, where he did cardiac research for infants. He worked for Choate Hospital in Woburn and New England Pathology. He went on to be a top salesman for Becton Dickinson Immunodiagnostics Co. He retired in the late 1990's but soon took a job with Health Masters as a medical examiner for life insurance applicant where he worked right up until he became ill.
James was very health minded and was an avid fitness fanatic. He had many friends at Today's Fitness in Woburn who will miss him dearly. He enjoyed music and dance and just loved to live his life. He most especially enjoyed the loving company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James was the Beloved husband of the late Carole (Doherty) DeMaio. Devoted father of Michelle Williams and her husband John of Lowell, Mark DeMaio and his wife Nancy of Woburn, Matthew DeMaio and his companion Stefanie Kelly of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Martha Jane DeMaio of Boston. Loving grandfather of Jamie DeMaio, Capt. Michael Williams, USMC, Darcie Decato, Brian DeMaio, Jimmy DeMaio, Danny DeMaio, & Katelyn DeMaio. Also survived by 9 loving great grandchildren. Brother of Gloria Clancy of Wilmington, & Freda Kilgallen of Somerville.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday March 26th at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St. Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
