Bridgewater – Robert A. “Bob” Stewart 90 formerly of Florida and Bridgewater died Thursday March 17 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Alma G. (Roberts) Stewart.
Born and raised in Brockton he was the son of the late Victor and Jessie (Evins) Stewart and a graduate of Brockton High.
Robert was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the US Army from 1942-1945. He was an Aviation Engineer whose job was to build airstrips for incoming bomber and fighter planes. He also was a participant of the “Battle of the Bulge” earned a Victory medal with three battle stars.
For many years Bob worked as a Motor Pool Manager at Hanscom Air Force Base before his retirement in 1980.
After his retirement he and his wife Alma moved to Port Richey, Florida where they resided from 1980-2004. While residing in Florida they competed in several Ballroom Dancing contests and won several Gold Medals and a “Best Overall” award for their talents.
He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles, the Shriners and the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge and served as chairman of the Civilian Welfare Council at Hanscom for many years.
He is survived by his children Carol Geary of Tyngsborough, Betty White-Rose of Pembroke, and Robert G. White of Brockton, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Friday April 1 from 4-7 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Funeral services and burial will be private.
