Obituary

John "Jack" Gruber, 80 of Manchester, NH died March 18, 2011 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. He was born in Bellvue, Kentucky February 8, 1931 to John and Helen Marie (Grome) Gruber. He then moved to Cincinnati and Arlington, MA where he graduated from Arlington High school.

He served in the United States Army Intelligence Battalion in Germany in the early 50's as a cryptographer. He received his BA from New England College. He was a graduate of New Hampshire Hospital School of Nursing and subsequently taught there. He then pursued his studies at the B.U. School of Nursing.

For over thirty years he worked as a psychiatric case worker for the Mass Mental Heath Center and the Manchester Mental Health Center until his retirement.

He sang in the choir at the Concord Unitarian Church for many years.

After his retirement and move to Manchester he was an adult literacy tutor.

He will be remembered as a kind, loving soul, who was always willing to give of his time.

Family members include his wife of 41 years, Pauline (Pinard) Gruber, of Manchester; a sister, Joyce LaPolla, of VA; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces, nephews and cousins.


A service of remembrance was held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Lambert Funeral Home 1799 Elm St. Manchester, NH 03104.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
