Rita D. Simonini, 80, of Kennedy St., Woonsocket, died Monday at Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of Mario A. Simonini. They were married on November 24, 1950.
Born in Manville, she was a daughter of the late Lionel and Mirza (Beaudoin) Laferriere. She was raised in Manville and resided in Woonsocket for over 50 years.
Mrs. Simonini worked for AT Cross in North Smithfield for many years and previously worked as the Falls Yarn Mill.
Rita enjoyed playing bingo, day trips to casinos, and walking. She was a keen bargain shopper and had a special collection of elephant figurines.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by a son David Simonini of Pascoag, a daughter Nancy Waugh, and her husband Richard Waugh, Jr., of West Warwick, two grandsons Jonathan Waugh and Timothy Waugh and his wife Jessica, and a great-grandson Jakob Waugh. She was the sister of John, Ralph, and Leo Laferriere, Claire Laprade, Pauline Fillion, Simone Lefrancois, Lucille Marcotte, Lorraine Babbitt, and Denise Hogue. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 8:30 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony Church, Greene St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
