James Hurst, 79 of Clarksville, TN, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at St. Thomas Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Hubert Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday following the visitation.
He was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church, a member of the Valentine Sevier Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Past Commander of the State of Tennessee SAR Color Guard, a member of Al Menah Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Masonic Lodge #761. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a Management Analyst with the Civil Service at Ft. Campbell, KY.
James was born October 2, 1931 in El Dara, IL, son of the late Kenneth Marion Hurst and Estella Jean Hurst.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smith Hurst; son, Kenneth Hurst (Martha), Leeds, AL; daughter, Vicki Hurst Dodson (Fred), Moraga, CA; sister, Iva Jean Hyatt (James), Lexington, SC; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard.
