Mr. Donald Lee “Buck” Holmes, age 81, of Pinnacle, NC, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Village Care of King. He was born on December 23, 1929 in Kanawha County, W. VA to the late Russell Virgil and Zilphie Melton Holmes. Mr. Holmes was a Self-Employed Building Contractor, served in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army, and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Holmes is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Billy Smith, of Pinnacle; one son and daughter-in-law, Timmy and Judy Holmes, of Pinnacle; a daughter-in-law, Donna Holmes, of Pilot Mountain; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and one sister, Phyllis “Sis” Tilley, of King, NC. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his wife, Verlene Holmes, his parents, and one son, Chris Holmes. A Graveside service with full military honors conducted by King American Legion Post 290, King, will be conducted on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Olive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. with Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating.
