Ray "Buddy" Harris, age 80, of Danville, died Friday, March 18, 2011 in Stratford Rehab Center.
Born August 1, 1930 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late William T. Harris and Grace Foster Harris. He lived most of his life in Danville and worked for Abbott Proctor & Payne, the Downtowner, and Belks downtown. He later worked and retired as a clerk for the Goodwill Store on North Main Street. Mr. Harris was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one sister: Mildred H. Isom of Danville; one brother: James Thomas Harris of Danville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Blanche Harris Finley.
Funeral services officiatied by Rev. Richard Morris will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel, and at other times, they will be at the home of his sister, Mildred Isom, 1149 Franklin Turnpike, Danville.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, Virginia 24541.
