THOMPSON – John H. Chadwick, 89, of 8 Poulin Drive of the Quinebaug section of Thompson, died Thursday, January 15, at home.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Ethel M. (Pratt) Chadwick; a nephew, Henry Zajac, Jr., of Dudley, MA; 2 nieces, Brenda Lemmerlin of Groton, CT, and Joan Moriarty of Truro, MA.
He was born on January 14, 1915, in Fall River, MA, the son of John T. and Clara W. (Ward) Chadwick. He lived in Southbridge and then Dudley for seven years before moving here in 1950. He graduated from Mary E. Wells High School, Southbridge, in 1932, where he played semi-pro basketball.
Mr. Chadwick was the supervisor of inventory control and production scheduling at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, where he worked from 1939 to 1978.
He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Dudley, having served as a deacon, a trustee, an usher, as well as the moderator of business meetings, and as a participant on many committees. He was a member and past master of the Dudley Grange #163, a member of the Black Tavern Historical Society, and a member of the American Optical Company Quarter Century Club. He was a former member of the Cohasse Country Club in Southbridge for 30 years. He was also a former member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Southbridge.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Dudley, 135 Center Road, Dudley. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton. There are no calling hours. The family suggest donations be made to First Congregational Church Jacobs Hall Project, PO 1454, Dudley, MA 01571-1454.
