Edith Voges Beal, 93, a 55-year resident of Winchester, passed away March 16, 2011. Born in Portsmouth, NH, she was the daughter of the late Luther A. and Mabel F. (Pollock) Pattee. She was raised in NY City until age 11 and came to live in Northwest Boston, where she graduated from a 2-year program at the Chandler School for Women. She worked for Franklin Management Corp. and Donald Holbrook in Boston, and for the Winchester School Dept. in the Winchester High School library. Edith was also employed for 16 years at Winchester Hospital, where she kept the financial records for the $7.5 million dollar capital campaign and became a member of the National Association of Hospital Development. She ended her career there as the Assistant Director of Development in June 1984.
Edith married Victor Voges in 1937 and they made their home in Winchester until his death in 1981. Their children are Robin E. Hatch of Concord, Constance E. Voges of Nantucket and Robert E. Voges of Arlington. In 1984, she married William Beal and they added his daughters, Marjorie Crawford and Sarah Fowler to their family. After the death of her second husband, Mrs. Beal turned her energies to volunteer work both for the hospital and for her church, the Parish of the Epiphany.
Mrs. Beal was also the dear sister of Luther Pattee of MT and the late Margaret P. DeSouza, and is further survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sat., March 26 at 1PM in the Parish of the Epiphany, 70 Church St., Winchester, MA 01890. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
