TEWKSBURY - Joseph S. DeLucia, age 83, a resident of Tewksbury for six decades, died Thursday morning, March 17, at the Blairhouse of Tewksbury following a long period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Pamela T. (Cristaldi) DeLucia, with whom he had celebrated a 58th wedding anniversary this past November 16th. He was lovingly described as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He was born in Stoneham, August 12, 1927, a son of the late Luigi and Maria DeLucia, and raised in Lawrence. He had resided in Tewksbury since 1956, and was a communicant of St. Dorothy's Church in Wilmington.
He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WWII and served stateside as an Aviation Machinist's Mate 2c. Upon discharge in 1948, he began his career as a civilian employee of the Navy at the Lynn General Electric, Aircraft Turbine Division. He retired as a Quality Assurance Specialist, civilian employee of the U.S. Navy in 1984 after 37 years of service.
In his earlier years, he and his wife were active in square dancing, and the family enjoyed the R.V. lifestyle as members of the Apple Corps R.V. Group. He was a lifetime member of the Tewksbury Wilmington Elks Lodge, # 2070, and in his later years became an avid golfer.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Louis J. DeLucia and his wife Wendy Rosenbloom of Manchester, NH, Debra-Ann Giguere and her husband Richard of Lowell, Jo-Ann Isnor and her husband John of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Jonathan DeLucia and David DeLucia both of Concord, NH, Jason Giguere of WY, Renee Hallahan of Dracut, Amy Melendez of Lowell, John Isnor Jr. and Kimberlie Isnor both of Bedford; eight great grandchildren, Kianna, Gabriele, Jason Jr., Kelsea, Lillian, Victor Jr., Trinidad, and Zion; a sister, Carmella Grillo and her husband Leo of Methuen; a brother-in-law Emil Miraglia of L.I., NY; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Lena Miraglia and Frank DeLucia.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Mar. 21 in St. Dorothy's Church, Wilmington. Burial with Navy Honors followed in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
