Stephen Joseph Goddard, P.E., a long time resident of Gilmanton Iron Works, NH passed away on March 12, 2011, age 64.
Born April 17, 1946 in Valentine, Nebraska, he was the eldest son of Richard H. and Mary Z. Goddard and grew up on the family dairy farm in Orwell, Vermont. A graduate of Fair Haven Union High School and the University of Vermont, he owned a series of construction businesses in Flagstaff, Arizona and Bemidji, Minnesota, prior to moving back to New England and taking a project management position with the engineering firm of Hoyle, Tanner & Associates in Manchester, New Hampshire.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Susan Farr Goddard, his sons, David Michael Goddard and Jeffery Daniel Goddard, and his daughter, Kathleen Amanda Waleryszek. He also leaves behind his parents, Richard and Mary Goddard, his brother, William Goddard, and his sisters Ramona Akpo-Sani, Rebecca Desrocher,Arlene Batschelet, his granddaughters Alexandrea and Elena Goddard, his grandson Sufjan Waleryszek, and his great-granddaughter Shailah Morgan Goddard.
He was a respected member of the community, an honorary lifetime member of the Bemidji Jaycees and served on the Town of Gilmanton budget committee. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in five states and instrumental in the design and delivery of the Exeter wastewater treatment plant, and was a key contributor to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport expansion and numerous highway projects throughout the state.
A remembrance service will be held Friday March 18th at 4 PM at Fratello's, 155 Dow Street in Manchester.
