H. Chris Barber, III, 56, of Tifton died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011, in the Sanctuary of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe and Dr. W. Ches Smith III will officiate with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Glynn Coburn, Terri Taylor, Tom Foster, Jerry Flannery, Ben Tyson, George Barber, David Barber and Benji Christmas will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tifton Gideon Camp, Gene Cannon, Mike Bland, Wade Clark, Wilbur Webb, Jeff McMillan and members of the kitchen staff at Tifton’s First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Barber was born on April 13, 1954 in Tallahassee, Florida and was the son of Harvey Christopher “H. C.” Barber, Jr. of Fitzgerald and the late Ileene Gilbert Barber. He was employed with the Tift County Recreation Department and a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gideon Society and a faithful donor to the American Red Cross Blood Drives.
In addition to his father, Mr. Barber is survived by his wife, Patricia Scott Barber of Tifton; one daughter, Melissa Barber of Tifton; and one sister, Anita Barber Shanklin of Orlando, Florida.
