Maria R. (Cabral) DeSousa, 92, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Antonio S. DeSousa. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, she was raised in Santa Maria and came to the United States in 1956 and settled in California. Two years later, she moved east and settled in Stoughton, where she has lived ever since. She was a homemaker at home with her family. Mrs. DeSousa was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton for many years. She was a resident of the Copley at Stoughton for over 6 years. In her free time, she enjoyed watching soap operas, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Daniel DeSousa and his wife June of FL and Anthony Sousa and his wife Maria of Stoughton. She was the sister of Filomena Sousa and Alexandrina Soares both of Stoughton and the late Conceicao Cabral. She was the grandmother of Steve Sousa, Daniel Antonio DeSousa and Stella Billadeau and the great grandmother of Jeremy and Olivia Billadeau. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, March 19 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in her memory may be made to the Copley at Stoughton Patient Activity Fund, 380 Sumner St., Stoughton, 02072.
